The event included a signing roundtable, giving attendees the opportunity to hear the personal experiences of each new citizen on their pathway to citizenship, as well as an official naturalization ceremony, according to a statement from the Institute for Canadian Citizenship (ICC).

Halifax Mayor Mike Savage commented that holding a citizenship ceremony at Pier 21 on Canada Day holds special significance for him. “The oath ceremony for new Canadians at this place and on this day is very meaningful to me, and I know it is also meaningful for these new citizens who are full of excitement. I believe everyone in the country should attend one of these events at some point,” Savage said.

“Seeing the pride on their faces, watching them wave the flag, and sing the anthem in both official languages has been a very special experience,” he added.

This ceremony is among the 60 that the ICC and Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will hold throughout the year across the country, according to the ICC.
